The El Mocambo is one of the coolest venues in Toronto, decked in reds and well, more reds, the inside is lit like a hip Goth party. It has played host to many a popular band over the years and a plethora of less popular acts as well. In the grand scheme of things, Hadouken! may not be one of those popular bands yet, but over the past couple of years, they’ve been garnering a lot of buzz internationally.

Courtney Love Speaks to Oxford Students

Distinguished scholar and motivational speaker Courtney Love addressed students at the Oxford Union on February 12th to trash the UK music scene and her own album. She is in the UK with her revamped "Hole" project and she was invited to speak to Oxford's university students, (my only guess is as part of some sort of joke). She spoke for about an hour in what I can only assume was an enriching experience for their burgeoning minds.

Good Shoes - No Hope, No Future review

In 2007, Good Shoes had a modest hit on the UK charts with a song called 'All In My Head'. It was a slice of everything that seemed to be working in modern music at the time, being an urgent and accessible short but sweet song that appealed to the same fans who enjoyed Arctic Monkeys and Bloc Party. The band went on to release a full length, scored a few more singles, toured, and then went right to work on album number two.

David Bowie – A Reality Tour review

Things have been quiet on the Bowie front for the past few years. Reality was released in 2003 – and Bowie toured the album through 2004 until he required a surgical procedure in Hamburg in June of 2004 which cut the tour short. A live DVD of the Reality tour was released in 2004, and this double CD is material taken from the same two nights, recorded live in Dublin on November 22nd and 23rd of 2003. Bowie has contributed to assorted albums and performances over the past few years (Contributing to TV On The Radio and Scarlett Johansson albums and appearing on stage as a surprise guest with David Gilmour and Arcade Fire) but there is no sign of a new album seven years after Reality saw release.

Formed in London 1978 by fresh musical upstart Chrissie Hynde, The Pretenders have had a brilliant if not tempestuous ride on the musical express. That’s a nod to Hynde’s former employ at the venerable New Musical Express for all of you playing at home.

The band gave the world a few Generals in the Armies of alternative rock that became popular in the 1990’s and copntinues today.
