Fazer Three Editorial
Welcome to half of the newest issue of Fazer.
I’m not quite sure how we managed this – issue three of Fazer was too full of reviews and pictures. Yves and I had to cut this issue in half. So, what you are reading now is the ‘aggressive’ third issue of Fazer. The rockin’ third issue if you will. There will be a fourth issue of Fazer posted to the web in the next week or so, and it will be chok full of alt/indie reviews. Not having to print these issues is GREAT ! We can just post two issues with no concern over printing costs. I love it.
March was a rough month for me. I caught some sort of spore mid-month that laid me up for a good week, and wound up turning into bronchitis. I also turned 40 last month (shivers). My wife and I went to New York for my 40th. I think I picked the bug up on the way home on the plane. I was driving into Buffalo with my friend Lou the day after we got back from NY to see Billy Talent play the Buffalo Icon (maybe a 500 person capacity bar). I mentioned to Lou my throat felt a bit scratchy at the border on the way into Buffalo. Two hours later, I was done. My voice was totally gone. It came on like a Mack truck. This friggin’ cold had me in its clutches for three weeks, culminating in a regiment of antibiotics for bronchitis. The picture above is the Marquee of Cowboy’s Bar in Guelph. I was sick as a dog for Lamb of God (and Trivium) :-( I had to pass on this gig, along with Sebastien Grainger / Jewish Legend / Germans two days before. I love how Lamb of God is UNDERNEATH the Easter Spring Fling!
I refuse to admit that whipping around from concert to concert is the cause of my failing immune system. I choose rather, to blame the plane ride into New York :-)
Some things that are exciting me right now – in no particular order: Heroes being back on schedule again. That was a painful seven weeks of no new Heroes episodes. I didn’t realize just how much I rely on a weekly dose of that show until last month. The Last Town Chorus’ Wire Waltz cd. It’s been a while since a CD slapped me upside the head like this one. Vocalist/Songwriter Megan Hickey plays a mean Lap Steel Guitar. Word on the street is her guitar playing is making some men in her audiences break into tears. The new Chevelle CD - Vena Sera. This is the heaviest the band has ever sounded. I didn’t much like their last disc, and was going to give this new one a pass. I’m glad I ignored that thought and ponied up for the CD. It rocks from beginning to end. Joss Whedon’s Buffy The Vampire Slayer comics from Dark Horse. Season eight is coming out as a string of comics on sale right now at your local comic peddler. Whedon’s writing was always the driving force of the now defunct TV series. And these comics drive that fact home. :-)
