Earl Greyhound’s latest release “Suspicious Package” is the album Brooklyn’s dynamic trio have been striving to create. It marks the band’s maturation to full creative collaboration, described as a blistering rock inferno. The band, consisting of guitarist Matt Whyte, vocalist Kamara Thomas, and drummer Ricc Sheridan, perform with an intricate balance of chemistry, and it’s clear they were heavily influenced by 70’s classic rockers such as T.Rex, Badfinger, and Big Star. This rockin’ trio have even been compared to the legendary Led Zeppelin.
This CD commences with a song titled “The Eyes Of Cassandra”, and is played in two parts. The first half starts with soft, cool, subdued vocals and interesting harmonies, and is quickly followed by part 2 which boasts psychedelic bass lines, heightened vocals, and a descent into blues-rock. As the CD continues, it keeps moving in different directions. One moment you are experiencing dark pop, and the next you’re in noisy acid sounds and heavy grunge grooves. It’s difficult to follow the momentum, but surprisingly intriguing. Many of these songs have a slow start, but expand into wild sonic territories.
The song “Shotgun” unleashes the power of Kamara’s vocals. As Kamara and Whyte’s vocal intertwine, the execution is remarkable. The drumming by Ricc Sheridans is nothing other than exquisite. He hammers the skins and blends perfectly into an odyssey of sonic harmonies.
Suspicious Package is scheduled for release on April 13, 2010. This CD is an experimental wonder, if you’re patient enough to sift through it.
